Electrician Coburg

We are the sparky down the road.

Miki Electrical Group works out of Coburg 3058. Most jobs here are a short drive rather than a trip across town, and that shows up in how fast we can get to you.

What we get called out for

The Coburg job list.

Coburg throws up a particular mix of work, and after 14 years of it we know what usually turns out to be behind the symptom.

Homeowners, landlords and property managers

Old boards behind old brick.

Coburg housing runs from Victorian and Edwardian places near the Sydney Road end through to solid interwar and post-war brick further north, with new apartments filling in around the station. The switchboards have not kept up with any of it.

What we open up most weeks is a board with ceramic fuses, no safety switches on the power circuits, and a house that has since gained an induction cooktop, a split system, a dishwasher and a car on charge. The board is not faulty. It is just doing a job it was never sized for.

If yours trips when the kettle and the toaster go on together, that is worth a look before it becomes an after-hours call.

  • Switchboard upgrades

Old fuse boards replaced, safety switches fitted on every circuit, the lot labelled and tested.

  • Rental safety checks

Required every two years in Victoria. We handle whole rent rolls and send the paperwork straight through.

  • Emergency call-outs

No power, a hot smell, or a circuit that will not stay on. Ring us.

Working locally

Why being based here actually matters.

It is not a marketing line. It changes what we can say yes to.

Plenty of electricians will list Coburg. Fewer are actually in it. The difference shows up on the jobs nobody plans for: a fault on a Friday afternoon, a board that has started buzzing, a tenant with no power in half the house. When the van is already in the postcode, that is a detour. When it is coming from the other side of town, it is tomorrow.

It also matters on the slow jobs. Renovation work in a period house rarely runs to the original plan, because what is behind the plaster is only ever a guess until it is open. Being close by means we can come back for the extra half hour a job turns out to need, instead of that half hour becoming its own booking a week later.

Commercial work on and around Sydney Road

The strip is mostly small operators, and a shop that cannot trade is losing money by the hour. Fit-out and maintenance work here gets staged around opening hours, with the noisy and the power-off parts done before you open rather than through the middle of service.

That covers new shop and cafe fit-outs, lighting and power for a refit, exit and emergency lighting, data cabling, and the switchboard work that tends to sit underneath all of it.

Rentals and rent rolls

Victoria requires an electrical safety check on rental properties every two years. For an agent with a portfolio through Coburg and the suburbs either side, the useful thing is not the individual check, it is having someone who will work through a list, keep the records straight, and deal with the tenants directly so the office is not the go-between.

We do these in batches. Send through the addresses and we will sort the scheduling out from there.

Common questions

Before you ring.

If yours is not here, ask on the phone. It is quicker than typing it out.

How quickly can you get to a job in Coburg?

It depends what is already booked, but Coburg is where we are based, so urgent work here is often same day. Call rather than email if it is urgent, because the phone gets answered on site and email does not.

Are you licensed?

Yes. REC 35681. Every job that needs one gets a certificate of electrical safety, and that is not an extra.

Do you work on old wiring?

Most weeks. Period houses through Coburg often still have original circuits behind the plaster, sometimes with newer work spliced into them. We test before we quote on those, because guessing what is in the wall is how a small job turns into an expensive surprise.

Can you quote before starting?

Yes, and you get the number before any work begins. On fault finding we will give you the cost of the diagnosis up front, then the cost of the fix once we know what it actually is.

Do you take on rent rolls rather than single properties?

Yes. Send the list of addresses through and we will work out the run and deal with the tenants directly.

Do you cover the suburbs around Coburg?

We do, and the inner north gets the quickest turnaround.

Past the inner north we work through Melbourne's northern and eastern suburbs, and we take renovation and commercial fit-out work right across the metro area.

Not sure whether you are in range? Ring and ask. It is a thirty second phone call and we will tell you straight either way.
