These are the jobs that fill most of the week. Small enough to do in a visit, important enough to get right.
Halogens swapped for LED, new downlights in a kitchen or living area, or a fitting that has stopped working and needs replacing.
Over a kitchen bench, a stairwell, a bathroom vanity, or an entry. The fitting you choose, wired and mounted properly.
Extra points where the double adaptor currently lives, dedicated appliance circuits, USB outlets, outdoor weatherproof points.
Bathroom, laundry and kitchen fans, with timers or humidity sensors where they make sense. Ceiling fans in living areas and bedrooms.
Sensor lights, garden lighting, under-eave lighting, weatherproof power for the deck or patio. Rated for Melbourne weather.
Cracked or discoloured fittings, a switch that buzzes, a socket that sparks. Quick to fix, and worth fixing before it gets worse.
Hard-wired interconnected smoke alarms as required by Victorian law, in the right locations, tested and certified.

What each job actually involves.
Not a sales pitch. What we do, what we check, and what you should expect.
Most of the work on this page is small in scope but it adds up. A house in Coburg with halogen downlights, not enough power points, a bathroom fan that has never worked, and a sensor light at the side passage is four separate visits or one booked day. We do both, and the approach is the same: check what is there, do the work cleanly, test it, and leave the wall looking like we were not there.
Downlights and LED upgrades
Swapping halogen downlights for LED is the most common lighting job in the inner north. The old fittings run hot, cost more to operate, and the globes fail regularly. LED downlights use a fraction of the power, last years, and run cool enough to insulation can sit against them.
What we check before we swap: the transformer compatibility (halogens run on 12V, LEDs may need a different driver), the ceiling insulation clearance, and whether the existing dimmer will work with LED loads. A dimmer that worked fine with halogens will often flicker or buzz with LEDs, and that is not a fault with the light.
Feature and pendant lighting
Pendant lights over a kitchen bench, a stairwell, or a bathroom vanity are one of the finishing touches in a renovation. The fitting comes from the supplier, we wire and mount it. What matters is the ceiling junction, the weight rating, and the dimming if you want it.
On a solid plaster ceiling in a period house, the mounting point may need a pattress or a ceiling plate. We carry the common sizes, and if the fitting needs something custom we will tell you before we drill rather than after.
Power points and circuits
Adding a power point is a straightforward job, but the wall type changes everything. A plasterboard wall with a cavity behind it is a clean install. A solid brick wall in a Brunswick terrace means chasing, which means dust and patching. We will tell you which one you have before we start.
If you are adding several points or running a high-draw appliance (an oven, a split system, an EV charger), you may need a dedicated circuit rather than tapping off an existing one. We check the load on the current circuit before we add to it, because an overloaded circuit is the one that trips at 11pm on a Sunday.
Ceiling and exhaust fans
A bathroom without working extraction gets mouldy, and a laundry without ventilation takes longer to dry. We install exhaust fans with the right ducting to the outside, not into the roof cavity, and we wire them through a timer or humidity sensor where it makes sense.
Ceiling fans in living areas and bedrooms are a separate job. The mounting point needs to be rated for a fan, not just a light fitting, and the wiring needs a controller. If there is an existing light point we can usually convert it, but the ceiling joist may need a fan brace.
Outdoor and security lighting
Sensor lights at entry points, under-eave lighting around the perimeter, and garden lighting along a path. All of it needs to be weatherproof rated, and the cabling needs to be run where it is not going to get hit by a shovel.
For a commercial premises, facade lighting and security lighting are often part of the fit-out. For a home, it is usually a standalone job. Either way, we use fittings rated for Melbourne weather, which means IP65 or better for exposed positions.

Can you swap halogen downlights for LED?
Yes, and it is one of the most common jobs we do. We check the transformer compatibility, the insulation clearance, and the dimmer if you have one. Some dimmers need replacing to work with LED loads, and we will tell you that before we start rather than after the lights flicker.
How many power points can you add to a circuit?
It depends on what else is on that circuit and what the load is. A lighting and power circuit in an older house may already be close to its limit. We check the load before we add to it, and if it needs a new circuit we will tell you. Adding points to an overloaded circuit is how you get 11pm tripping.
Do you install ceiling fans?
Yes. The mounting point needs to be rated for a fan, not just a light fitting. If there is an existing light point we can usually convert it, but the ceiling joist may need a fan brace. We carry the common brackets.
Can you install a sensor light?
Yes. We use weatherproof fittings rated for exposed positions, and we run the cabling where it is not going to get hit by a shovel. For a side passage or a back garden, a sensor light is one of the most practical security upgrades you can make.
Do you supply the fittings or do I?
Either. If you have chosen a pendant or a fan, we will install it. If you want us to supply, we use the brands we know are reliable and we pass the trade price through. For downlights and power points we usually supply, because the quality of the fitting matters and the cheap ones fail early.
Do you install smoke alarms?
Yes. Victorian law requires hard-wired, interconnected smoke alarms in all homes. We install them in the right locations, test them, and certify the work. If you are renovating or selling, this is one to sort out before the building inspector finds it.
